Samsung’s VR Headset Leaked In All Its Glory, This Is What It looks like [Photo]
virtual reality has suffered more than a few false dawns over the years, but with the likes of the Oculus Rift reigniting attention in the technology, everyone seems to be working on their own implementation these days.
Now it seems the Samsung is set to announce its own headset that resembles Google’s Cardboard headset that is essentially a device that holds a smartphone and uses its screen as the main driving force of the VR experience.
Codenamed project Moonlight and expected to debut alongside the Galaxy note 4 at an event in early September, the headset has shown up in a photo that sees the Galaxy S5 partake in a spot of reality virtualization. given the fact that project Moonlight is believed to be about to put in an appearance alongside the note 4 though, it’s a fairly safe bet that the two will play rather nicely together.
Oculus, the people behind the Rift, have long been rumored to be working with Samsung on some sort of VR project, though there’s no word yet as to whether they are behind project Moonlight. The company has previously used Galaxy note 3 screens in some of its most recent headsets though, so it’s clear that everyone is in agreement that smartphones are great ways of making a VR headset at a reasonable price thanks to the inclusion of not just a high resolution screen, but also a plethora of sensors and gizmos.
Project Moonlight, while resembling Google’s Cardboard, appears to have such luxuries as a Micro USB connection for plugging into a phone as well as a focus dial.
If we’re absolutely truthful, we’re still not sure whether we’re completely sold on this whole virtual reality thing, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that it’s not going to go away. We’ll reserve judgment until these things start to ship in any real numbers, but we won’t be holding out for an iGoggle, that’s for sure.
What do you think about the whole deal? Do you think this could replace the way we look at virtual reality headsets, or do you believe that this would be a bad move by Samsung? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below, we love to hear from you guys!
